In this lesson, instructor Iliya Mirochnik teaches you to draw and render the spiral fold, another fold seen in loose-fitting sleeves and pant legs. You will expand on your ability to describe drapery, movement, and fabric weight over a cylindrical form.

This lesson belongs to Drapery: The Russian Approach. In this 8-week course, instructor Iliya Mirochnik will introduce you to the Russian Academic method of drawing drapery from observation. You will learn how to render each of the six types of folds. Iliya will teach you how fabric interacts and is affected by gravity. You will discover how designing and incorporating fabric and folds in your work can create movement. Through this course, you will be able to combine everything you have learned into drawing a clothed figure.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.
