Hi Jaylene
Some good looking hands: gesture, emotion. Congrats on finishing your 100 Day Challenge for gestures. Keep it up!
Woah! Nice gesture and I love the strong lighting effect/values! Awesome!
@Susan Izzard Hi Susan! Thanks! I’m glad you’re finding these inspirational. Hope you’re picking up a few things here and there. Cheers!
Long time no see! I just wrapped up a sketchbook last week. Due to personal matters, it took a bit longer. Continued on with my arm/hand studies. I’m currently studying Luca Giordano atm, once done with that I’ll be moving on to Steve Huston’s leg/foot chapter. Hands are hard! And a lot! This sketchbook is mainly that along with my daily self-portraits. Enjoy! Also, Happy New Year!
Another figure drawing and a self-portrait from the days when my town was burning. Much props to Chris Legaspi’s short video on head drawing on Post-Its. He focused on the big outer shape and this particular sketch was done before he uploaded that video. He stresses it enough that I decided to try my hand at it. 😉
Of course arm studies can’t be done without learning a thing or two from Michelangelo himself. Decided to change up materials and also work with the waterbrush and wash for my portraits. Pretty fun! I don’t paint often and I liked how Glenn taught with the waterbrush. Should be a nice transition into full painting.

November 26, 2020 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Ram’s 100 Day Challenge: Gesture and Structure | Figure Drawing #955210Hi Ram,
Really learn to DRAW-THROUGH. Construct the forms as you feel them from all sides. Since you’re practicing the torso, don’t just focus on the ribcage itself, try to differentiate the waist and hips as well. Look to see how all three parts fit INTO each other. Drawing-through will allow you to see how things ‘connect’ to each other.
Wow, so close! Awesome.
For Day 82, right-most sketch, I like how you have the spine/centerline, but that wrinkle to the left cuts way too long. I know there’s compression, but a nice short indication could help. Also, see it as a gestural/action mark that flows over the mass of the ribcage/scapula.
You’re definitely understanding those block forms that make up the hand. Good stuff.
