I would say so, yeah. Everyone is different. Honestly can’t stand videos hah. I’ve taken some in college, some studio classes and a few workshops.
I mainly studied from books. If you’re on NMA, Vilppu, Huston, and Legaspi should be good starts. They have a bunch of vids on YouTube as well. Supplement this figure drawing with some object sketching as warm-ups. Few minutes a day should let that structure knowledge seep in.
I like the essence of the drawing above. Watch out for sharp points like on that arm. The wrist is usually a box into a egg in the forearm. Keep in mind your forms on the torso. The abs (shadow shape) should track along the sphere-egg you got going there.
I studied with Vilppu a year ago about this same time (well we finished late February). And he really did harp on us to take things slow and feel it out. He called out a bunch of us for focusing too much on contour right away. Comes with practice the longer you do it. Keep it up.
Nice grind here. Spend time on the construction of forms (boxes, tubes, spheres) before you commit to your contours/overlaps. Really nail down that initial gesture too!
I’m finishing my own hand study from Steve’s book and it is a doozy! So much! So damn hard too! Go go!
Welcome. Enjoy the next 100 days. I like your broad value statements for these last ones. Nice line-making for the contours. Keep an eye out on your gesture/thrusts+structure. 😉
Cool. Awesome that you’re continuing. I like the sensitivity on the pink skin blonde painting. Keep going.
@Elya Zagel What up, thanks. I think since 2015? so about 6 years now. I was a prisoner and they scooped out my eyes.
Oops forgot to post yesterday. Old Masters studies from Hale.
