Muuuuuuuuuch better revisit. Arm on right could be pushed in more towards the torso, seems a bit too far out. Though watch out for your perspective throughout that figure, especially the far-back knee. The lines would be pointing down as I believe we’re looking down on it.
Good job!
November 11, 2020 at 2:15 pm in reply to: Jaylene’s 2nd 100 Day Challenge: Gesture Figure Drawing #909328You are very welcome. Glad it helped somehow.
I actually have that Nicolaides book, since Marshall Vandruff recommends it in his book reviews: https://www.marshallart.com/HOME/reviews/draftsmanship/
Skimmed through it. Never actually gotten around to tackling those exercises. XD
There’s a ton of info to wade through. Learn from what works best for YOU. ๐

Double-check your proportions for the finger segments. Also, try and figure out how you can simplify the area between the thumb and index finger. Wrinkles add too much busy info here.
Day 70! You’re almost there!
Congrats on finishing Andrew. * thumbs up *
November 10, 2020 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Jaylene’s 2nd 100 Day Challenge: Gesture Figure Drawing #906807This is for your right-most figure. Again, proportional issues where the head is a tad bit to big and the legs could use some length. That comes with time. Since you’re studying box forms, try not to get bogged down too much in anatomical detail. You wanna make clear the forms read for the viewer. In the right arm, I’m a bit lost. I know the deltoid bunches up into the scapula when moved up and muscles just contort there. In my redraw, I simply just drew the shape of the scapula with a box coming out of it. Clearer. How long are these drawings by the way?
I boxed out the pelvis and legs. And shaded them in accordingly. Pay attention to your light source. Mine comes from the right-above. Your upper legs seem to be inverted? Not sure what the lighting was in your reference. Both back planes should be shaded. Hope this helps! Continue having fun and exploring. ๐
November 10, 2020 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Jaylene’s 2nd 100 Day Challenge: Gesture Figure Drawing #906606Hi Jaylene. Here are some quick redraw notes. For the 3rd figure. Overall, watch your proportions. Yoni is pretty damn buff so his torso/limbs can be lengthened. Feel free to play that up. Look at how heroic Michelangelo made his figures. Spend a day just looking at his Sistine Chapel. For this figure, really focus on having a solid foundation to lay those box forms. The ribcage should be a box with a clear top plane. Your clavicle line is too close to the trapezius which destroys the form. In the notes below, you can see how I just made it a box. A cylinder would be great too! The trapezius is a good rhythm line that goes from shoulder point to shoulder point.Having a strong and clear grounding, the arm would have flowed nicely off the shoulder.
Don’t be afraid of connecting and flowing through long-axis lines at the start of your gesture. The ribcage should flow into the hips to the legs down to the foot. Look at the far left notes. ๐
Hah I like these fists. There’s a thrust to them. I’m actually on Steve’s Hands/Arm chapter from his book. I’ll share my take on them soon!

HOLY FUCK! In love with the pen sketch above me. Those eyes! Really liking your pen-work all-around. Awesome job!
I like that it isn’t too sketchy to be sloppy. It’s a nice balance. Definite character and personality to all these.
A bit of a random one from May. I was out late at night, saw the time and was like “Oh shit! Gotta do my self-portrait!” It was a cloudy, full/bright moon, still dark, so I took out my phone and used that since I was nowhere near a mirror. It was a nice exercise in big shapes/silhouette and getting a likeness out of that. It helps that I wear glasses.

November 8, 2020 at 12:19 pm in reply to: Ram’s 100 Day Challenge: Gesture and Structure | Figure Drawing #898462Please watch out for your ribcage shapes. Remember, it tapers near the neck. Pick up an egg. Visualize that it has flat sides.
Also, draw the ACTION/SOUL/MOOD/ATTITUDE. Some lines seem to close to the contour/anatomy. Feel free to do separate studies where you breakdown the figure (or parts) into their simplest form.
Wow! Awesome updates Nick! Keep at it!
Love those hands on the four bottom panel of day 61. For Day 63, I probably would’ve shaded that cut of light where the pinky/ring fingers touch. Again, all about simplicity and making things clear. For Day 65, at the wrist, that half-circle in light, is that a tendon (snuff box)? Either, it could be shaded in, following the mass conception of the palm of the hand (box) or shaded as if following the mass conception of the egg-shaped thenar of the thumb.
Day 66, holy shit! Not an easy pose! Great execution on this one!
