hello kara, this is a beautiful  painting of santa barbara and what i love about this painting is the loose technique that you used. I think what you can improve on to make the statement of the painting clearer is by playing with edge design: soft, hard, lost edges.

There are number of things where you can improve but I’m only going to mention the main ones, one being value, light and dark – make sure the darkest part stays dark and the lightest stays light you do not want them to compete with one another because if they do so the drawing itself would look flat therefore it would not  give that three dimensions. An easy way to remember this is different value different planes.

i think edge quality could have been better. Look at John Singer Sargents drawing and see how he plays with edges

These are awesome sketches i think to better the sketch is to establish the overall action of the pose through gesture first before form and structure because it appears you are thinking about the contour of the figure. Another thing i want to mention is the proportion, study it and try to memorise it shouldnt take long.
