Thanks for the model suggestion, I’ll definitely include him in my next studies.
Your hand gestures look really cool here, I think drawing hands is such a difficult topic. Do you have a particular method for drawing hands? I can see some really rough gesture lines beneath, but you do not seem to need much structure beforehand, like in case of the bigger one in the center.
Thank you Paul for your encouraging words, I’m glad you liked the piece from imagination! And switching the medium really helps to keep it going sometimes!
Thanks Joshua, that’s totally correct. It’s better to keep drawing even if it seems that nothing comes out right! And thanks for the explanation of the thing with the image compression!
Here is day 14, today was a better day! I tried to tackle the basics of foreshortening and also studied the very basic fundamentals of light and shadow to know at least the principles. The light and shadow deep dive will follow at some other point though. In the evening, I managed to do timed foreshortened poses, and it was fun! A few went terribly wrong, but that’s part of the learning process.
April 30, 2020 at 4:40 am in reply to: Peihong’s 100 day Challenge – diving deep into anatomy #499015I haven’t really noticed before, but your challenge is actually really helpful for me, as I also want to focus on anatomy/ figure drawing!
The last one has an interesting concept, I really like it! I’m an anatomy beginner, so I’m not super familiar with it yet, but it might me good to consider adding more muscle texture on the back. The overall shape looks good, but one might want to add some bumps where the scapula is located, as well as to indicate the deltoid muscle. It really helped me to focus on the anatomy of the shoulder girdle to understand the upper body better.
Very informative challenge you have here, looking forward to see you progress!
Especially the last portrait is really impressive, I love how every single stroke adds up to the volume of the face/ body, good job!
I noticed that my motivation has already reached a slump within 13 day, so I figured out a more rigid training plan with all the materials I have on my hand for the next couple of weeks. I tried to split the different fields regarding anatomy and basic drawing knowledge and will try to do the more complicated stuff in the morning and to end the day in a lighter manner. Hope that this will help to organize my 100 day challenge better.
In the evening, I tackled the Michelangelo master study from day 7 a second time, this one was done digitally. Can’t wait to try to understand light and shading better.
Is it just me, or am I not able to enlarge the pictures in this thread?
Day 13:
April 27, 2020 at 12:20 pm in reply to: [COMPLETED] Joshua’s 100 Day Challenge: 1 Daily Drawing from Imagination #494324The lighting is incredible in the last one! Really love how the darker part flows between the two figures, but yet one can sense a dramatic tension that sets the characters clearly apart. The gestures really tell a story, I’m amazed!
Thank you Joshua and Shazad for your encouraging words, I’m glad you like it!
And as always thanks for the helpful advice! It makes perfectly sense to iterate, I’ll definitely make more sketches to test out the anatomy and composition the next time. Hope that I can do more coloured attempts from now on.
More studies today on day 11. Started with Croquis Café in the morning and with some instructions for basic value exercises. In the evening, I followed another video by Glenn Vilppu and it was interesting that although I didn’t directly follow the demonstration and did the assignment on my own, the pose that was analysed beforehand was much easier to approach. On another note I wanted to say that I’m really glad that I joined this challenge, because I noticed that it gets easier to draw day by day.
Your figures here look really dynamic, good job!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Joshua, mileage is indeed an important factor to strengthen ones skills. Today I tried to deepen the topic regarding the shoulder girdle and found a really helpful NMA resource by Glenn Vilppu. I watched some more anatomical explanations on youtube and tried to apply it on a 3D sculpture from different angles.
Here is day 8, some scribbles I did while watching the NMA resource and more attempts of the torso with shoulders:
Correct, it was meant in terms of the three-dimensional quality of your work 🙂
April 23, 2020 at 12:43 pm in reply to: [COMPLETED] Zhi Su’s 100 Day Challenge: Portrait and Figure #487866I really love your watercolor pieces, they have a lovely texture and the colors you use are right on the spot. Amazing to see that you use a variety of different mediums so skillfully, it really makes me want to practice even more! Keep it up!
