Day 62: got off schedule, had a hard time getting into it. I did some master studies with Karl gnass, I can’t remember who they were sorry! But some really beautiful artworks, wish I spent more time on them!! It didn’t go anywhere beyond this point in the lesson, but i really need to be taking stuff like this farther, I need to challenge myself more!!! Just didn’t have the energy, it’ll be better tomorrow. These are real quick, at least for me, 3 min, but I did go a bit over lol. Got confused or something in a few of em, yikes.
gotta go beyond the gesture! While the practice certainly doesn’t hurt, I need to be practicing other aspects, structure, anatomy. I fear I stay in my comfort zone way too much, just doing the same thing. avoiding what’s hard, what I really need to be doing. Don’t know, new challenges every day.

November 12, 2020 at 12:13 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #909784Day 61: while a bit scattered and low on time, there’s certainly some interesting stuff lol! I got to go to bed now, schedule!
looking at it now that dark spot on Vader’s helmet right throws it off I think, whoops, it’s pretty rough anyway lol! Some Halftone might have been good on the cheekbone area. It was a sick reference, if I knew more about shadows and such the lighting was really cool, but oh wellNovember 12, 2020 at 12:07 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #909782Wow thank you Tim that’s some pretty high praise! 🙏 I appreciate it, and I’ll keep working!
Congrats Andrew!! The progress made is certainly evident! I think faces are the perfect thing to do for a 💯 day challenge, doing a ton is what you gotta do! Great job staying dedicated to it all the way, definitely a great accomplishment 🙌👌

November 10, 2020 at 11:45 pm in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #908109Day 60: forgot to draw the convergence lines on the boxes, I’ll do it tomorrow. I did some of Steve Houston’s head drawing course on expression, wow what a great lecture. Definitely took some serious notes there! This first head page is just a mess ngl. The top is at least based off Leyendecker stuff. And the shading attempts… they just look dirty because I don’t understand light smh 🤦♂️. You can’t learn it all at once! In time and effort! I had some fun tonight with some Star Wars.
November 10, 2020 at 11:35 pm in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #908104Thanks so much Tim! That is interesting, I’ll try and use the brush pen more often!
November 9, 2020 at 10:13 pm in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #902425Day 59: my reaction yesterday may have been a bit extreme lol, but the motivation is needed, today was very productive following an actual schedule! Just Putting the phone away can do wonders.🙌
I think some of these figures turned out pretty good, i tried using the brush pen but I basically used it like my pencil haha. I’m no good at trying to draw directly, but at least I think the pen made me a little more mindful of the mark making… at least some of the time.
These pictures here do look quite ordinary and boring, but I did do quite a good amount of drawing from imagination today, for my standards, which is fantastic! just to start making random stuff and not worrying about it, and eventually the brain gets going and something comes!! I feel like each time I draw out of imagination i become a bit more competent in it!! Lots of fun too, drawing Batman and such haha. But those pages are pretty off the rails and rough so I’ll keep em. :)) try to keep working my brain!- This reply was modified 3 years, 12 months ago by theokatzman45.

November 9, 2020 at 12:13 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #899178Ok day 58: this feels like both the low point of the entire challenge thus far, while at the same time hopefully a turning point. I had a very very unproductive Sunday, and I have had it! I talked with my brother about making a schedule because my current time management has just made hours and hours of empty space. Not doing what needs to be done, to this have more time, for of course more efficient and effective drawing time. And a schedule is made! I have to go to bed AT 12:00 if I am going to stick with it tomorrow, I must not compromise if this is going to be successful. It is the only way! So I am taking the loss of being ashamed of how little drawing I’ve done today, and getting to bed early for me now, so that time can be used making tomorrow more effective, thus getting more real drawing done.
I just had to will myself to only finish off with just these 4 min gestures. I feel quite sickened honestly that I managed to waste so much time that this is all I could present. I WILL follow the schedule, and I WILL DRAW.
I did some 250 box challenge boxes, read the lesson and watched the vids again, I didn’t number them yet but I am starting the 250 box challenge! Now I’m accountable lol. I was doing boxes everyday anyway but this is much better, I think I’ve already fixed some errors in my boxes. I did study the book: figure drawing design and invention a bit, but I didn’t even draw the illustrations!!! Argh. The schedule is beginning NOW, this must be the turning point in getting my junk together!!
November 7, 2020 at 11:51 pm in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #895726Day 57: pretty slow moving here. Could never really get in the zone. This first page is trying to follow along with Karl on the master studies, but I think it’s clear I was having a hard time being engaged haha, not paying the attention I should be. And the next drawings are from gestures on Karl’s Instagram, but they don’t exactly look it… that one on the left is on its way to the floor!! not my best. The figures didn’t make it too far along today no joke lol. But then for fun I switched tracks at the end and tried out some lions on a whim, it was an interesting new challenge!!

November 7, 2020 at 1:07 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #892662Day 56: lost track of time. Didn’t accomplish much, why is proper scheduling so hard!! Many of my issues could be solved with proper time management, I just have to get a plan down and do it! I did get to eavesdrop in on Marshall Vandruff’s Bridgman assignment crits tonight though, so that was great. Marshall is such a master teacher, I watch the draftsmen podcast every Tuesday! Haha. I totally got to learn from Bridgman. Many things to learn. I must do more learning tomorrow! More doing!!
These first figures are a bit clearly wonky in a few bits. Especially the one on the right… the left leg should be foreshortened, the trunk isn’t placed clearly and isn’t right, and the torso is too long as a result. Anyway, we can try again tomorrow!November 7, 2020 at 12:54 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #892660Thanks @AJ! That’s some of the main stuff I’m shooting for so it’s good to hear! I’ve been looking through animators on Instagram and I’ve been very inspired by the sheer amount of drawing and extremely alive and dynamic gesture throughout! Animation is sooo amazing, gotta learn the skills.

November 6, 2020 at 1:22 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #891193Day 55: drove back home today, unfortunately I was quite tired unproductive at home, so I didn’t start until pretty late. But starting is always the hardest part!! After that hopefully you can get in the zone.
this warmup page is just doodles from imagination, so there are certainly some big inaccuracies and messed up stuff here in the skulls 😬😬. Lol, I’ve got to practice way more from imagination.
but I checked out this amazing resource I’m sure your all familiar with- bodies in motion. Wow this is sooo great! Loved using this! What an absolutely fantastic resource!
but now that the vacations over I got to get back to work, and get learning!!

November 5, 2020 at 1:02 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #889707Day 54: ok, I don’t feel great at all not having drawn any figures or faces today, I feel bad since I’ve had quite a bit of time just hanging around the place here in Joshua tree that I could have spent a few minutes drawing some faces, but I was just too lazy!! And tired I suppose. Oh well, I’ll get back in it tomorrow! I’m going back.
but the day was certainly not without drawing and certainly not without thinking about drawing. But the results are just a bit disheartening, sloppy rocks, eh… We got to walk a desert trail and stop at a few places, and I had my sketchbook with me the whole time!! So I definitely got some drawing of insane rock formations and gnarly desert trees! There was so much fascinating stuff to draw along the trail, but we didn’t exactly take lots of time to stop and draw so I had to do some very quick gestural rocks and trees, which I think had some value, but the more presentable ones are here. Hopefully I’ve learned a great deal more on drawing rocks and trees!! It definitely feels like I have! Just feels like I don’t have much great to show, but I was drawing, and trying to draw by visualization! Trying to really concentrate and see the gesture, corners, overlaps!!! The gesture in these massive rock formations are so cool, Joshua tree rocks are definitely worth the google haha. I don’t know WHY I never drew an ACTUAL Joshua tree though!!! They are such interesting trees, maybe I can get one tomorrow. Wow, sums it up about right haha, I’m sitting on the edge of a cliff with my sketchpad overlooking a breathtaking mountain range, but I decide to draw the small tree and rock over on my left LOL.

November 4, 2020 at 12:35 am in reply to: 100 Day Challenge: Heads and Faces-planes/structure/proportion #888230Day 53: taking a few day trip In the Joshua tree National park! Lots of insane trees and rocks, many opportunities to draw these in the coming days, I plan to carry my sketchbook with me at all times!! But unfortunately I didn’t do much drawing, and I can’t say im proud of these showings. The figures at the end are just aaaaaaaaaa why, my mind is just too tired.
Sorry about the really bad picture quality, 😬 my shadow is covering half of them! *facepalm* im in a new place!
