Thanks Joshua, I start by picking a colour and then painting a swatch over the image, adjust, and repeat until I’m happy. That’s how I get the flat colours in the first iteration. Then I’m visually comparing as I paint in the rest of the image. It’s more about what feels right. This image is much more yellow than the source, but it still feels right. I’m doing this on an iPad, so I split the screen, photo on the left Procreate. That gives me a “sight size” approach.
