I’m really enjoying your sketches. I’ve also set myself a 15 challenge – to get back in the habit. 🙂

I’m no longer receiving emails when someone replies to my post. I sent this to Support a day or two ago too, but didn’t receive a reply.
Thanks! Do you mean diagonally along the bridge of the nose?
I’m back! It was so funny when I looked at my cat drawing today. It was like, “who drew this?”… just like he mentions in the sight-size lesson. Anywho… I spent some time adjusting the geometry of the face, and it seems much closer to me today (but will see how it looks tomorrow, haha.) The center of the nose between the eyes still looks a little twisted. Will work on the ears and rest of the head tomorrow.

When I saw my cat sketch with fresh eyes today, it was way too wide, so I started a new one. All of this re-doing to get things right is helpful to not get too invested in early work. Finished lesson 3 of sight-size, and working up some momentum to start the first assignment from that. In meantime, here’s the new cat sketch of Maple (my mischievous cat who chewed through my plumbline yesterday, ha!)
April 14, 2020 at 5:41 pm in reply to: [COMPLETED] Joshua’s 100 Day Challenge: 1 Daily Drawing from Imagination #469768It’s interesting to see that you’ve mapped out the geometry of the figure in perspective. I’m inspired to refresh myself on perspective and anatomy! I almost always draw from life, so the idea of drawing from imagination is daunting – but I can imagine if you have a scaffolding of anatomy understanding it’s much easier. Love seeing your sketches, and looking forward to more!
Your quick sketches are great! Keep going, and I agree with the tip on looking into gesture. I did an exercise once where the challenge was to define the figure in 5 straight lines only (or some small number like that); You’d be surprised how little you need.
Thanks, Joshua!
Josseline, Yes! I’ve done the first two sight size lessons here, and I recommend them highly so far.
Birgith, I agree. This one took me 3 or 4 hours; Most of that time was getting the initial sketch proportions and angles correct. It was tiring at the time, but I’m glad I stuck with it, as I spent much less time making adjustments later, so the drawing overall felt easier than usual.
This is my first time using Procreate for anything ‘serious’, and I’m really liking it. I want to fine tune the touch sensitivity, as I’m getting marks that are either too light or too dark without much in between. However, the ability to undo without having to scrub an eraser is fantastic for these kinds of exercises where I make a lot of marks that I immediately see are wrong and want to change, haha.
