September 20, 2020 at 9:42 am in reply to: Andres’s 100 Day Challenge: Sight-size drawing Bargue plates #770090For the past few weeks I have also been working on this technique that I’ve learned from Glenn Vilppu. I find this approach very unique and I’ve enjoyed working with it a lot.
It’s basically drawing on toned paper. The only difference is that you’re using powdered charcoal as your toned surface. This would allow you to draw with the kneaded eraser, just as if your drawing with the white chalk on toned paper. However you may go back with the white chalk to really define the forms or use it as highlights. This approach also allows you to work fairly quickly but I will take my time, treating it still as an academic practice :).

Before I jump right in, quick values studies always helps. I don’t know why I didn’t do this kind of thing from the very start.
