Okay I’m going to try re-posting this and will delete if the original post magically shows up.
So I’m trying to do the value compositions, but am struggling with the first key part which is setting up the still life and controlling the lighting conditions. It’s easy enough to control the light at night but is harder during the day. My goal is to just keep working with lighting conditions and paying attention to how light and shadow works.
Maybe the composition is secondary to the lighting conditions at the moment?
Hmmm, I posted some pictures but they aren’t showing up… This is just a test post to see what’s up with the system. Maybe posts with pictures just take longer to show up sometimes?
Thank you, Josseline! I have focused more on story than the art so it makes me happy that the character seems to be shining through!
I really love the mood that you set with all three of these pieces. They all give off a strong feeling of mysterious night time, a feeling of humans aren’t there or aren’t looking, and if you do look you may only catch a glimpse of something magical. Your works contain that glimpse and it’s such a lovely feeling. All three of these pieces are really nice.
In the second and the third, there is a strange thing happening where it feels like 2 compositions, the bottom half doesn’t connect seamlessly with the top half. The third one – the bottom half seems disconnected from the lion on the branch. It’s just a break under, disconnecting it from the world below.
The second one almost does the same thing, where the guy under the trees is disconnected from the massive figure above because the trees cut all the way across the composition.
They are very, very cool though. The ram head is amazing, giving off an almost cosmic feel.
Wow, you’ve taken a lot of classes!
I am in the same situation where I am lucky enough to be in a situation where I can devote as much time as possible to my art. I am working on building up endurance and discipline to get more practice out of each day.
I have read the Three Body Problem! I loved it! I’m on the second book, The Dark Forest now. But yeah usually I’m into more Star Wars stuff, and even Marvel (I’m so mainstream right now lol — damn you Disney!) For some strange reason I am really into Spider-Man right now. Not what I thought I’d normally be into but I love it. I love all the dynamic poses and how Peter is always trying so hard to do the right thing but is often perceived as a menace.
Sometimes I wish I played video games, but I fear that if I did I would never truly improve my art skills. Video games are so amazing these days with incredibly complex storytelling. It’s quite impressive.
Wow, I love this painting! The colors are beautiful and I love the composition. I love the two women and the way they are positioned. Their faces are both so expressive.
Very emotional portrait. Is this from The Passion of Joan of Arc?
Adrian, I feel the same way. Usually I am too shy to speak or post on forums, but with this Great Isolation I am more motivated because even an introvert like me needs some social contact. And I just try to remind myself that any comment is better than no comment. Okay, maybe not *any* comment, but generally it is frustrating to not feel “seen.”
And I am motivated to comment and get to know people because art is a language, and there is so much to know, and you can’t learn a language by yourself. So if we’re all sitting at home alone our language skills get rusty.
For a beginner, looks like you’re doing a damn good job so far!
I’ll be looking forward to that!
Hi Lavender! Sounds like you’ve got quite a story there that you’ve put a lot of time into.
Do you have any art to post that you’ve done yet?
A visual style for an entire comic is quite a big task. You’ve got a lot of ideas and sometimes with that the hardest thing is knowing where to start. Maybe you could start with only one thing to begin with, such as a specific environment or character.
Hi Ramona! Thank you for your feedback!
You are right on track! 😀 You are absolutely right, more gesture in the characters in the throne room would be much more desirable. I was practicing placing figures on a horizon line. I’m struggling with applying proper perspective to my drawings. And the overall composition needs massive improvement as well. I’m trying to go back and work on the basics/fundamentals so that I can start applying them to my artwork.
Wow! These are amazing! That second one is wild.
Hi Alessandra! What a beautiful oil painting!
I got confused on how to post a new thread too but it is easy.
When you’re on the forum, you scroll to the bottom and you will see the box just like the reply box here to create a new thread. There’s a box for the title and then the bigger one below. Good luck!
In case anybody critiques this just wanted to say the character is a SHE! But she is supposed to be androgynous.
Wow, your work is amazing! They have a fantasy feel to them… maybe due to the lighting. I love it. Very impressive!
