This is nice. You’ve got a clear separation of lights and darks. And the composition is all pointing towards the castle. The rocks in the front very much move my eye to that little castle on the top of the mountain. The sky and mountains also move the eye there. It has a very foreboding feel to it.

Are you working from photograph or imagination?

The painting is beautiful. What program did you paint this in?

It is surprising that you say you mostly do line drawings rather than color because the color is quite strong. Although I am a beginner so take it with a grain of salt. It seems like you are losing some form in the lip area, the beard is flattening out the area beneath the lip, and around the jaw too.

But overall it is quite a nice self portrait!

The great thing about pen is it is quite freeing — in these practice gesture drawings, you don’t have to make a drawing that looks good so that gives you the freedom to draw what you feel rather than what you see. It seems you are still working on the outside of the form, doing contour drawings. Gesture is within the form. Draw inside the body and focus on the movement rather than the outline.
