I’m watching The Artist’s Sketchbook by Steve Huston and am trying some gouache painting techniques.
I have problems creating shadows on the figures. The colors often get to muddy and ‘dirty’ looking, as if there is mud on my characters. Does anyone know why is that and how to create a nice and clean shadow? Thank you.
It might be the first layer of paint isn’t dry enough so when you put your shadow over top it mixes the colours. If you have warm skin tones and cool shadows the colours mixing could result in a muddy colour.
