pencil portrait please critique :)

Hello, this is a pencil portrait I made from a photo it’s about 15in square on strathmore paper, I tried to follow the “Russian academy” method by Ilyia Mirochnik, this is the source photo and the drawing:

I’m just a beginner so I’m not really qualified to critique, but wanted to let you know I think it’s gorgeous.

I think you made the eyes a little to small but other than that idk, the rendering is pretty on point and you have a nice design where the shadow meets the silhouette

@Ayden Diel thanks!!! yes I see that the eyes are just a bit too small, I guess if there’s to be a difference it would have been better if the eyes were a little too big maybe that way the drawing could be more flattering or expressive… I found out the eyes being small almost at the end of the drawing and I was reluctant to erase and start over… should have done that because now it bugs me  😛

Hey Edgar, it looks very clean, the portrait reads well, the shadows are well placed they describe the same girl I see in the picture, Great Job.

I’m not familiar with the Russian approach however in the case you want to depict the portrait as similar as nature I suggest you getting darker with your shadows on the face and especially the hair.

Remember that the hair has a local value ” a value inherent ” which is darker in this case because of the dark hair still nice drawing.

Hi Carlos, thanks!!! yes you are absolutely right! the hair should be darker, I’ll try to do it without getting too heavy on the pencil, thanks for the advice!!!

Your work is stunning! I just went through your website, and I definitely do not feel qualified to offer a critique! I really appreciated your feedback on one of my drawings, though, so I will make an attempt at providing another set of eyes. It seems like this particular portrait – which is incredible! – would appear even more three-dimensional if there were fewer dark outlines or if the edges were softened a little. It’s just perfect as it is, though!

Jan!! thank you! I really appreciate your comments, I definetely see your point! I think I’ll darken the left side so that the outline on her trapecius and neck dissapear, I hope that’ll do it 😀 thanks for your kind comments and your critique 😀
