In Need of Critique on Paintings

Hi everyone,

Below are three pantings that are almost done but I would love to get some feedback on. One is an abstract self-portrait (oil), which has been quite a challenge – that left eye keeps tormenting me. Then there is a more surrealistic one (acrylics) – which I even signed – but has still been giving me an itch to retouch it. I feel like I am missing something to make it have more impact… And the last one is more inclined towards op-art – inspired by some tiles in my bathroom hahah. I noticed they had an interesting combination of optical illusion and afterimage – I’m not sure it will show through the picture though. I would also like to say that I am so glad to have come across this platform, it has been such a great surprise during these hard times. I have been binge-watching Bill Perkins’ incredible classes on Composition and Color Theory. They are amazing!

Eu não tenho muita experiência com arte surrealista/abstrata, mas vou tentar te ajudar.

O retrato, eu acho que algumas peças não comunicam. Parece que todo o rosto foi feito de um jeito, o cabelo de outro e as orelhas e nariz de outro. Como se esses elementos não comunicassem entre si. Eu gosto do jeito que você construiu o rosto e acho que seria interessante essas formas se repetirem no cabelo e ombro, mas principalmente na orelha e nariz. Parece que as proporções do rosto tbm foram respeitadas (dividir o rosto em 3 terços, testa/sobrancelha, sobrancelha/nariz, nariz/queixo) então a orelha ficou muito pequena tbm.

O oceano de bebês….talvez se os fetos esvanecessem. A transição entre as 3 partes do poderia ser mais leve? Essa onda no meio do quadro podia ter um umbigo…parece uma barriga de grávida.

Você apontou justamente os pontos nos quais tinha certa insegurança, foi muito bom saber suas impressões.

Vou trabalhar um pouco mais no retrato, e pensar em como executar essa transição na do oceano.
