I took the subject from Steve Houston’s tutorial of the same name. I have tried to keep the hue similar to the reference. Steve fades his subject into the background but I am thinking of painting a realistic environment for my next step. Any suggestions on what this should be greatly received……….maybe sitting on rocks?
Well done. I think you are allowing the local color variations and specular effects (the hilights on the form) overtake the more important statement of:
What is in shadow and what is in light. The photograph is subtle but try to really see that and push that in your painting. It should be clear, consistent, and directional.
