Thank you Deborah 🙂
June 3, 2020 at 3:24 pm #566759June 3, 2020 at 4:39 pm #566818Hi Bryan I very much like the blurred face! theres something interesting about it. However there are other parts where I could have suggestions.
The upper arm for instance could have some more clarity and form (or maybe your still working on it?). I do not see for instance where the arm separates from the rest of the body. This could help improve the gesture as well. Another suggestion could be to play with the back ground eg darker against the lighter drapery and lighter etc to separate the subject better.
June 3, 2020 at 4:47 pm #566835Thank you Shazad 🙂. Yes, I’ll probably keep working on this one a bit and try to improve it. I see your point about the arm. Thank you for the suggestions.
June 3, 2020 at 5:50 pm #566884Hi Bryan. You’re getting better and better! Your use of clear contrast between shadows and lights is very effective and you’re using a lovely colour palette. I like the subtle suggestion of facial features. It’s a very effective solution. Keep it up – this is a great direction 🙂!

June 4, 2020 at 3:32 pm #568198June 5, 2020 at 10:23 am #569244June 6, 2020 at 2:26 pm #571178June 7, 2020 at 12:16 pm #572586Day 42. This one is tough is a number of ways. A large part of the figure is in shadow, and I see a bunch of olive green in her skin that is in shadow when I look at the picture. But, too much green as she looks like a zombie. Too much peach, and it looks way too bright. I’ll have to keep working on a harmonious balance. Also, I’m struggling with her head/face in this position. I’m calling quits today, and I’ll look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow.
June 8, 2020 at 3:08 am #573607Hi Bryan. Yes, there are still things to work on, but there’s a lot of good here! There’s a lovely quality of light and shadow created by the colours you’re using. Her face is lovely! I hope you like what you’re doing, because there are some really great things beginning to happen for you!
June 8, 2020 at 4:25 am #573748Thank you Deborah. I feel like this is close to being a decent painting if I could just make the right corrections. Much easier said than done though🙂
June 8, 2020 at 1:21 pm #574432June 8, 2020 at 4:56 pm #574710Is it worth taking a photo of it into your digital program and playing with it that way to start with? I’d suggest it’s mainly the torso that needs clarification, both with light/shadow sides and making your strokes wrap around the form to suggest volume (particularly across her back). It may be her rib cage you’re indicating, but it’s tending to make it look too flat. I still really like it though 🙂.
June 8, 2020 at 6:11 pm #574782Thanks Deborah. It’s actually a male model, but he does have long hair, and I didn’t define all his muscle in the sketch. Hopefully it will all look more clear when I do the full drawing tomorrow. I was just focused on trying to capture the dramatic pose in the sketch, but in the photo his pose is even more extreme. I’ll work on measuring it out and getting the angles right before I paint 🙂
