Thank you Iliya. I will work on your suggestions. This means a whole lot to me. I love your paintings.
May 21, 2020 at 4:40 pm #542045I was going to post, but you don’t need to hear from me after you’ve had feedback from Iliya 😆! Keep up the good work 🙂!

May 22, 2020 at 3:03 pm #543639Day 26. Ended up having a pretty busy day today, so I didn’t get a a lot done. I did choose a pose for my next drawing, and started working on some thumbnails. I looked at a bunch of Renoir paintings as inspiration for this one. Still trying to figure out the composition and placement of the figure. Trying to decide if I want this to be a full figure drawing, or if I will crop at the lower legs.

May 23, 2020 at 3:47 am #544597It’s a great idea doing thumbnails. Once you think you know what you want, a technique Erik Olson talks about in his perspective classes sometimes is to sketch out the whole figure in your case, then play with how you want to crop it, perhaps using paper to frame out certain parts. It makes for interesting compositions and you may better see what you like. Looking forward to seeing more!
May 23, 2020 at 4:14 am #544610Thanks Deborah, I’ll try that out🙂
May 23, 2020 at 1:45 pm #545671May 23, 2020 at 4:39 pm #545912I like the pose too. She looks to be sitting correctly 👍🏻. We’re just coming in to winter so I have the opposite problem, trying to keep warm! Do you get snow in Florida? We are about 250m (not sure in feet) above sea level, so we get snow falling about twice a year, but it only settles on the ground maybe once every three years and then only for a day. My Grandma lived in Florida, though I’m not sure where – I’ve visited only once when I was 9. My mum is American, thus I’m half. I have a few memories, but they’re childish ones 🙂
May 23, 2020 at 5:26 pm #545989Thanks Deborah. I made some corrections this evening when it cooled down, but I still see some to make tomorrow before I start with pastels. We don’t get any snow in Florida, especially not where we live in Tampa. They might occasionally get a few flurries up in North Florida. We basically have two seasons, which is pleasant and dry in the fall/winter, and hot and rainy in spring/summer. We are just about to get into hurricane season, which is always an adventure. I was born and raised in Tampa, but I did live in the mountains of Northern Virginia for close to 10 years, which was beautiful and got plenty of snow. I’d prefer to still live there or somewhere similar, but my wife and I moved back down to Florida a couple years ago to be closer to family. We’ve never been to Australia, but it looks pretty nice there.
May 24, 2020 at 7:58 am #547187May 24, 2020 at 2:40 pm #547909You may know these techniques already, but have a look at this link about getting fine details in oil pastels: https://youtu.be/Tp6EWF17dZ0 . It gets interesting just before the 4 minute mark. Your climate sounds like Queensland in Australia. I prefer a cooler climate too, but it’s great you can be near family. Stay safe in the hurricane season 🙂
May 25, 2020 at 5:17 am #548972Day 29. Five or six more hours of work on this painting. Getting the figure right is tough enough, but now I also have to figure out how to make the background interesting like a Renoir, and I have no experience in landscape painting. Just experimenting as I go, and watching some of the Fenske landscape videos.
May 25, 2020 at 5:28 pm #550741Hi Bryan, I think the shadows and skin colour are looking great 👍🏻. The figure volumes are looking good too. I like the background so far. I think this one is shaping up to be very successful. Great work 🙂
May 25, 2020 at 5:33 pm #550754Thank you Deborah 🙂
