In this lesson, you will learn from instructor Stapleton Kearns how to analyze the design and composition of New England landscape painters in history, like Aldro T. Hibbard, Emile Gruppe, Lester Stevens, and others. These lectures lay crucial groundwork for your landscape painting journey.

This lesson belongs to the course Designing Your Landscape Painting. Follow Stapleton Kearns through the howling deserts of Joshua Tree, the coast of Point Lobos, and the colorful fall landscape of Vermont, as he teaches you the New England style of landscape painting. Stapleton will take you through his decision-making process on how to design and construct different elements in a landscape painting. Along the way, you will learn his tips and tricks on brushes, paints, and personal techniques.

Throughout this course, you’ll have access to the NMA community for feedback and critiques to improve your work as you progress.

Enjoying these lessons and stories about artists in past years. I love the suggestion about students looking at instructors work before enrollment. I’m past art school but the instructors that stood out for me were always the best artists. And now with so much online it’s easy to see. Thank you!

There’s a bit before Stapleton starts painting and he says “we’ve discussed my palette” .. eh? Where is this? I don think I’ve missed it. Would be useful.

Hi NicBritt, Stapleton talks about his pallet here, in the link below, in chapter 2
